Good, but not spectacular, Japanese restaurant. Service was good and everyone seemed to be having fun at the hibachi(teppanyaki) tables. We order a couple of sushi rolls, a hibachi calamari and a beef teppanyaki. All were very tasty except the beef was a little tough.

I ordered from the hibachi menu but didn't sit at the grill. Food was average and was not hot when it came out, not cold but definitely not like it just came off the grill. I got steak and shrimp and the shrimp tasted a little off, like it was too old. I mentioned it to the wait staff but they didn't offer to fix the problem. Overall, not a horrible experience but I've had better. Might try the hibachi next time and see if the food is any better.

Awesome food and such amazing preparation. Such generous portions and quality lean meat. I've been to many similar Jap restaurants in big cities and this one is actually better! Truly excellent HIbachi love it

A mediocre experience at best. The place seemed relatively clean, and the host was kind. The waitress was inattentive however, and forgot several requests from our group. In addition, I'm not sure how else to say this, but our Hibachi chef seemed like he was literally high on something. He was out of his mind, scaring the small children with another family and speaking in this weird creepy alien-like voice most of his "performance", many of the things he said were borderline inappropriate IF you could even understand him. He also tossed broccoli (maybe standard) instead of the traditional shrimp, and intentionally threw several pieces at people eyes. It was so strange, we were all just looking at each other wide-eyed the whole time. The steak and shrimp combo was 50/50 for me. The shrimp seemed fresh and packed with flavor, but the steak was tough and tasted like about the cheapest sirloin you can buy. Overall, the lunch menu was pretty reasonably priced with these meat combos costing less than 15.00 with soup/salad. I doubt if we'll be back, as I've had much better in terms of Japanese steakhouses.

Sushi portions very mediocre. In fact less than satisfying. Fresh, though. Service was passable. If you are in it for the hibachi and entertainment, you'll probably give this a passing grade. We were disappointed with our overall experience.

The service was excellent, the food a disappointment. We are in the middle of cowboy country, you'd think the steak would be of at least ok quality , nope it was below average, a steak at Dennys would be better. The sushi was mediocre at best, but it served its purpose by meeting my craving, that it at least did.

I was amazed at some of the negative reviews I saw concering this restaurant. From the moment we walked in the door the service was fantastic. The food was delicious and the prices reasonable and there was no tip added to our bill. We hope to return during our short 3 day stay in this city.

This is my second 5 star review for this location but i should preface it with the fact that 5 stars on yelp means "as good as it gets" The sushi here is as good as it gets in Rapid City That said, placed in another major city or somewhere along the Pacific, I may not have such glowing reviews. Nevertheless the raw fish is great and practically melts in your mouth. For pretty much owning the sushi market in town their prices aren't monopolized. I prefer sitting at the bar, theres normally nobody else sitting there and the service is fast. Next time Im in town Ill be back for sure.

I eat here every week or two. Yes, it's that good. Fresh fish for sushi and sashimi (in the middle of the country!), and the rolls are excellent. I eat at the sushi bar with the chefs. Great presentations and service, exceptional food! I feel like going right now!

My husband and I love sashimi and sushi, so when Fuji Steakhouse came to Rapid City, we have been constant customers. We eat here at least once a month. The tepenyaki is great for family and visitors, but we prefer either table or sushi bar dining for our best experience. The food is always fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. It easily compares to high quality Japanese restaurants we have enjoyed all over the world.

The food we had was very different but not bad. The service wasn't the greatest, our waitress didn't check on us but the atmosphere was nice. That was also our first time so maybe if we try back next time the service will be better. Our appetizer was awesome though, dinner courses were mediocre.

Pretty unfriendly bordering on rude. Food was as expected but unremarkable, The gentleman who seemed to be running the place had a really bad attitude. They rushed us to finish and leave making me feel uncomfortable

Pretty good Benihana knock off. Good grill skills. Good for family. Good service. Food was good. My family had a good time.

I get a sushi craving pretty often, and I'm always able to satisfy it here. The service is consistently good and the staff is very polite, and the sushi rolls are extremely tasty. My favorites are the California roll and the shrimp tempura roll. The hibachi grill is also great fun, dinner and a show, and the food is always so good I end up eating way too much.

Amazing food, the habachi show is great! Really funny, and they make it fun and exciting for all ages!

We had an outstanding hibachi experience here. Our children really enjoy Japanese food so we thought we would give this place a try. The service was prompt, we were seated right away and our drinks were in front of us in no time. We ordered a couple of sushi rolls- cooked for the kids and raw for us. They were delicious as were the salads and miso soup. The chef was entertaining and the food he prepared was outstanding.

We had such a good time here, we came two nights in a row! The hibachi chefs are pretty funny and entertaining. The grill entrees are reasonably priced ($20 for steak and chicken). I heard the sushi portions were small and overpriced. But you're in the midwest - what are you gonna do? Come here for happy hour for half-priced apps, sushi, and drinks. One of the better places in Rapid.

The food was amazing. Our chef was one of a kind and top notch. We stopped here on our way through to mt rushmore. I feel it was slightly over priced for the amount of food they ended up giving you but all in all a great experience.

Excellent teppanyaki-style restaurant, especially when you consider this is smack dab in the middle of the country. There is a non-grill option if you just want the food without the show. i personally recommend their bento boxes, they're great. sushi is fabulous as well. kids of all ages will love the antics of the chefs, and the fried rice on the grill is probably the best i've ever had.

I came here a couple times but never ordered sushi, I've always had the hibachi. This time I ordered sushi and I would have to say I was pretty disappointed. Sushi sad poorly rolled and I felt like the sushi was miniature compared to all the other sushi restaurants that I have ate around the country/world. I ordered the Volcano roll and it was definitely not worth the 9 dollars. Honestly the sushi could be compared to a convenient store sushi.

The old adage that the customer is always right, does not apply here. They screwed up our order, no fault of the waitresses, but we were fine with the mix up, but just did not e Want to be charged for the original order. When the bill came, we were charged for the item we originally ordered but did not get. Then the manager was going to take the difference out of the waitresses check. Very unfair, she was just trying to please the customer. The fish was fresh enough, but not the best I've ever had. I did not like the miso soup.

For lunch and dinner this is my favorite place to eat in Rapid City. I really liked the sushi and the hibachi for both lunch and dinner. I'm gluten free. Just tell the waiter and they will accommodate you. We had the bento box and sushi for dinner once and the benihana for dinner another time. The sushi was fresher than I would expect in Rapid City. It was pretty good. The benihana was also good. We had kids with us and the Benihana chef made it memorable for them. We had the filet, chicken and scallop in our Benihana mix. They all tasted great. The fried rice was really tasty. Just keep in mind this is not a lo cal meal but a really tasty one! Best place in Rapid City in my opinion!

The food here was surprisingly good. We ordered the seafood noodles that came with soup and salad along with the American Roll combo...three rolls with soup and salad. It was a great combination and was entirely too much food. I usually walk away from a sushi bar spending too much money and still being hungry. That was NOT the case here! The only negative thing was that one of the chefs at the hibachi bar continued to sing very loudly and off key. I'm sure his table enjoyed his humor but his obnoxiousness was rather irritating to the rest of us.

  • Jace S.

Food is always amazing and the hibachi chefs are extremely entertaining! If you're in the Rapid City area, this place is a MUST! It's a bit pricey ($18-25/plate) but it's well worth it!

Had to make a stop for food on our road trip home from the grand tetons. Looked on Yelp to see what was good in the area. Saw this place had great reviews so we decided to check it out. Our server was wonderful, the restaurant was very busy so she was zipping around taking good care of everyone. She remembered all of our special requests and was very knowledgeable of the menu. The food however, was not so great. Based on the suggestions here on Yelp, I ordered the firecracker and the super crunchy rolls. They were both so lacking in flavor, they both tasted the same, like a deep fried dough ball of nothing. My husband ordered the the tempura chicken. It was literally just a plain skinny strip of chicken, no seasonings deep fried with tempura. The sauces could have been from McDonald's they were so boring and flavorless. Worst food we have eaten in a long time. The edamame was good, but don't know how you can screw that up! We are from the twin cities area, which has tons of wonderful Japanese restaurants, so maybe we are just spoiled, but I really can't see how this place gets such raving reviews here.

The food was truly excellent. I've been to 6 hibachi grills and this is the best of them as far as I'm concerned (as far as quality is concerned). We got the shrimp, steak, and chicken and split it (my wife and I). It was about 8 bucks to do a split plate, though this gives you extra veggies, fried rice, soup, and salad. The food was more than enough for both of us (and I regularly eat very hearty portions). What keeps this from being a five star is, as another reviewer commented, some chef's off key singing. I didn't think I would encounter this, but I did. The guy was so obnoxious, it's amazing to me that none of the other staff has asked him to refrain from further failed singing. Overall, I recommend it. I'd definitely go back.

I lived in Japan for a year. I'm not saying this is the same, but it's the best I've found in the Midwest! Great atmosphere too!

Best Sushi in RC hands down... Five stars as compared to other RC sushi. I frequent this restaurant with some regularity and I am always amazed by the chefs' ability to reproduce the same dish with uncanny precision. My girlfriend and I always order the Love Boat (awww). The miso and salad are adequate (which is all they need to be). The guys behind the bar always make an ideal size, tight roll that rarely falls apart when passed from soy sauce to mouth. They always serve a good variety of fresh sashimi and nigiri. On occasions when we just want rolls, the always provide generous portions with the same great construction. My only critique is that their rolls stray somewhat from highlighting the fish. That is to say that they may use a little too much sauce or panko bread crumbs on certain rolls. This may be ideal for virgins to sushi but less for veterans or purists. This is easily overcome by proper rolls selection (rainbow rolls, tuna avocado rolls, and so forth) or just sticking to their stellar nigiri. The overall experience is reasonably priced. Expect to spend between $10-25. They do have a decent happy hour between 3:30-5:30 PM daily which features a separate menu with selections from the main lot. Most items are half priced or reduced. It would definitely be an inexpensive way to test out Fuji.

Have been to a lot of hibachi grills all over the US. This one smack dab in the middle of the US is one of the best. Fried rice is #1

Went here based on the stellar reviews. I am not sure if they were having an off night, but it just did not wow me. Between my husband's food and mine, I tried a spicy tuna roll, a veggie tempura, and a steak & shrimp hibachi dinner. The sushi was not very fresh, and the sauces for the tempura and hibachi were not good. They were all wrong- mostly being mayo-based, which was just very unappealing in Japanese cuisine. But the fried rice was pretty tasty. We went looking for a fun show of course, and the table next to us had that. But our chef was just odd. He threw food at people, which I thought was hilarious, but I could tell there were others at the table who were not as amused. And his other gimmick? He sang pop songs- from Celine Dion to Ke$ha. It was SO WEIRD. And then he just left. We got out of there pretty fast. Overall, the food was fine, and I think if the entertainment had been better, I would have liked my experience better. My biggest tip? Don't get the tempura unless you're happy eating it with soy sauce or mayo. Ew.

So I just moved here from Hawaii and this restaurant just really doesn't compare to the type of japaneese food you can get there, with that in mind I'm basing this review off of restaurants that I have experienced in this area. For asian food in Rapid city its not too bad, I would definitely eat here again. I did not do the habachi grill, instead I just ordered off the menu. At first I was like...wow, this place is kind of expensive but when the food came out there was a lot of it so it evened out. I got the terriyaki chicken bento box which came with chicken, tempura veggies, friend rice, 3 gyoza, an 8 piece california roll and a salad! We also ordered a sushi roll....i think it was called the hawaii roll, it had mango and strawberry sauch on it. It was pretty good. So if you're in the area and want some japaneese food I would def recommend this place.

This place is awesome! I am so glad Rapid finally got a Hibachi Steak House. I've never had to wait; the place is clean and efficient. The cooks put on a great show, and the food is excellent! I've eaten at the Hibachi tables and at the Sushi bar -and it is the best Sushi in town. I definitely recommend this place to anyone. Tip- Check it out for lunch, you still get the same great food for half the price!

Went there for lunch. Great entertainment, great food and good deal during lunch. This place is pretty much like what you would find in vegas or any other major city. I had the steak stir fry. The sushi is the same as HANA's but a little more expensive. Fun for a date, or by yourself.

I love sushi and am so happy to have a new sushi bar in town. I tried Fuji this weekend and the food was great. The service was a little slow but they were packed so it is no surprise. The miso was great and the sushi was so tasty and fresh! My husband had the sashimi and really liked it. We are looking forward to going back and trying the grill!

This was such a disappointment!!!! My husband and I came here and had the absolute worst experience ever! One review on Yelp said "the customer is always right does not apply here" and unfortunately we have to agree. Our waitress was so rude and made us feel so uncomfortable we actually cancelled our order and left. We ordered two glasses of wine, which came right away, but when it was time to order we were told "no" we couldn't order what we wanted. We were just trying to order a side (which is clearly on the menu) and were told that we could only order the full meal, even tho we did not want the salad, soup and vegetables- it just would have gone to waste, so we wanted the "side" option, again, this is on their menu, with the purchase of another hibachi meal, which we ordered. However, the waitress continued to tell us no and argue with us at the table, in front of everyone else that we could not order without the full meal. We ended up just agreeing with HER (customers are wrong here apparently) however, I was so upset and embarrassed about the whole situation we paid for our wine and left. But not before we were asked to move out of the way to finish our wine.... Seriously, the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. The customer service was so horrific and I have honestly never been treated this way, it was actually shocking. I went out of my way to be polite and was still treated terribly by our waitress/staff at Fuji.

I've never eaten at a Japanese steakhouse before---so I don't know if this is the norm. Excellent food, fun, entertaining meal. The atmosphere is outstanding, the food and service just as good. A bit pricey---but worth every penny. Be aware the Hibachi Chef's are loud but fun to watch (they do try to bring you into the act). I highly recommend the filet mignon and scallops---they were most excellent. You wont leave hungry.

Best Japanese Steakhouse I've been to. I have been to many Japanese Steakhouses. Benihannas and Hamada in Vegas, Kobe and Tanaka of Toyko in Honolulu are some of my favorites. The salad dressing, and fried rice is the best I've ever had. The steak and chicken were both delicious and "Sexy sauce" is amazing. I had a couple rolls of sushi and they were amazing as well. The shrimp look amazing and I will be eating that next time. The show was very good and one of the funniest chefs I have seen yet.

Good, but not exceptional. Hibachi is hit-or-miss depending on your chef (Erich rocks), but Hana's Korean has better sushi (& also, Hana's is where the chefs from Fuji go out to eat...best to eat Asian food where the Asian people go if you ask me! :))
